Bukit Gombak Stadium, Thursday, April 16, 2015 — In his maiden A Division 400m final, Hwa Chong Institution’s (HCI) Ow Yeong Wei Bin (#274) clocked a timing of 50.69 seconds to win his first title at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

“The atmosphere was very intense, because I knew that there was always somebody behind me, like RI’s Mark,” said the 17-year-old, who was the victor of the B Division boys’ 400m event in last year’s National Inter-School Championships.

“It’s very heartening to know that I managed to win my first A Division 400m race, and also set a new personal best at the same time.”

The HCI student bettered his personal best twice in the National Inter-School Championships; he first did it during the semi-final with a timing of 51.40 seconds.

Mark Llewellyn Lim (#149) of Raffles Institution was the first runner-up with a timing of 51.16 seconds, while St. Andrew’s Junior College’s Russell Kam (#172) completed the podium with a timing of 51.85 seconds.

The A Division boys’ 400m record is 48.69s and it was set last year by Anglo-Chinese Junior College alumnus, Zubin Percy Muncherji.
