Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Wednesday, April 15, 2015 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)] beat National Junior College (NJC) 16–2 to qualify for the playoffs of the National A Division Softball Championship.

ACS(I) now have two wins and two loses in the bag, while NJC have lost three consecutive games.

ACS(I) scored two runs in the top of the first inning to give themselves an early lead in the game. In the bottom of the first, NJC failed to capitalise on an error triple by Yao Kuang (NJC #23), as the inning was cut short with a double play ball by Nadum (NJC #12).

In the top of the second, NJC walked the first two batters, who then came back to score, extending ACS(I)’s lead to 4–0. NJC failed to make a comeback in the bottom of the second, despite having a runner at third base with just one out, as ACS(I) swiftly picked up two consecutive ground outs to shut out the side.

ACS(I) picked up four more runs, including a home run by Benjamin Lim [ACS(I) #25], in the top of the third to bring the tally to 8–0. NJC left another runner stranded on third base as they were unable to score any run in the bottom of the third.

A fourth inning rally saw everyone on the ACS(I) line up scoring a run each, except for Sean Lim [ACS(I) #47].

Nadim (NJC #12) and Shafeel (NJC #10) managed to score two runs for NJC in the bottom of the fourth, but that was not enough. ACS(I) eventually picked up eight more runs to secure the win by mercy rule.

ACS(I) captain, Benjamin Lim (#25), said, “I think today’s win is something we’ve been working for. This is just a stepping stone to the next stage, which is the playoffs. We want to play better than we did in the group stages as we know that we are capable of more.”

Vice-captain, Ryota Wong (#1), added, “We would like to commend the first basemen and shortstop from NJC for their athleticism and good ball sense.”

NJC captain, Bryan (#2), said, “This is the first time we scored runs in the whole season so far, so I think this is a good showing and we did well.”
