Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 — Last year’s runners-up Anderson Junior College (AJC) started their season with a 48–28 win over Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) in the first round of the National A Division Boys Basketball Championship.

William [ACS(I) #10] and AJC (#7) both scored game-high nine points each to lead their teams in scoring.

Both teams started out cold in the first quarter, with no points being scored until William [ACS(I) #10] broke the deadlock with a jumper at the four-minute mark.

However, AJC managed to dominate the proceedings early through their defence. They marked so tightly that ACS(I) resorted to putting up shots early in the shot clock, with no effort to work the ball into the post.

ACS(I) started the second quarter on a disastrous note, turning over the ball on their first three possessions. This allowed AJC to comfortably extend the lead, as their players created easy opportunities to score.

ACS(I) went six minutes without a basket, watching AJC stretch the lead to double digits. By the end of the first half, AJC held a 27–9 lead.

It all started clicking for ACS(I) in the third quarter, as they put up 10 points within the first four minutes of the quarter. This was more than the total they had in the first half. Their players started to attack the rim more, leading to more scoring for the team as a whole.

However, AJC held their ground, answering with a 6–0 run of their own, which gave them a 20–point lead midway through the quarter.

The final quarter saw offence stagnate on both sides. AJC had a few airballs on some of their possessions, as their players showed some signs of fatigue. However, they were watertight on the defensive end, not letting ACS(I) into the paint easily. They managed to close out the game by holding ACS(I) to six points in the final quarter, while putting up 10 points of their own.

AJC eventually emerged 49–31 victors, signalling an auspicious start to their 2015 campaign, where they look to return to the finals again.

AJC will next face Tampines Junior College on Wednesday, April 15, while ACS(I) will face Temasek Junior College on Monday, April 13.
