Bukit Gombak Stadium, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 — Hwa Chong Institution’s (HCI) Richie Chua (#562) recorded a throw distance of 47.73 metres to top the B Division boys’ javelin field at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

The 16-year-old’s finish was just 27 centimetres shy of his personal best, but it was a marked improvement from last year’s event, where he finished in fourth place.

Despite winning the gold medal, Chua (#562) was not satisfied with his performance.

He said, “The overall competition was quite tough and I didn’t manage to hit my objective of 50 metres. I guess coming in first makes me feel a bit better.”

Catholic High’s Tan Yi Ren (#68) followed in second place with a throw distance of 47.03m, while Chua’s (#562) teammate, Justyn Phoa (#542) completed the podium with a throw distance of 44.52m.

The B Division boys’ record stands at 53.26m and was set by HCI alumnus Adriel Goh in 2007.
