Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 — Clarice Tan (#5) attempted five field goals in the game. And she only missed one, due to a hard foul by Anderson Secondary’s Carina Yap (#13). She made up for it by knocking down both her shots at the charity stripe.
Tan’s (#5) near-perfect game sparked a first-half onslaught and helped Anglican High defeat their North Zone counterparts 51–20 in the preliminary round of the National B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.
The Anglican High guard finished with a game-high 13 points, all of which came in the opening quarter.
Anderson could not find a way to get past the East Zone champions’ defence and had to settle for forced shots on several occasions.
Anglican High, on the contrary, moved the ball well to find open looks. Tan (#5), Shannon Tham (#9) and Joyce Lim (#11) combined for six three-pointers to help Anglican High establish an overwhelming 34-point lead at the end of the half.
In the second half, the East Zone champions opted to rest their starters, which Anderson duly capitalised on. Led by Syrin Hashim (#9) and Nurul Afiqah (#10), Anderson outscored the Anglican High reserves 18–15 in the half.
Despite their second-half effort, Anderson could not overcome the insurmountable deficit and yielded the game to Anglican High.
Anglican High captain, Navanee Lingam (#4), said, “The team’s performance was good. Clarice (#5) and Joyce (#11) were very hot-handed! Both teams performed well in the game.”
Anglican High have won all their preliminary games and will advance to the second round. Anderson’s loss places them behind Anglican High, and likewise, they qualify for the second round as well.
