Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, March 27, 2015 — East Zone powerhouse Dunman Secondary led from start-to-finish to secure their 77–32 win over Peicai Secondary in the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship and are through to the second round.

Joshua Alas (#4) and Chua Sheng Da (#11) led Dunman with a game–high 16 points each, while Alden Toh (#9) of Peicai paced his team with nine points.

Dunman dominated from the start, putting up an impressive performance led by fast attacks. Coupled with good finishing, they mounted a 10–0 run halfway through the first quarter. The first quarter ended with Benedict Ong (#7) and Sheng Da (#11) netting one three-pointer each to take a 20–6 lead.

The second quarter saw Peicai trying their best to reduce the deficit with better defence. This proved successful as Dunman experienced their lowest scoring quarter, however Dunman still kept their lead with 37–14 going into the halftime break.

Peicai continued to work on their defence, but due to lack of coordination, they missed several scoring opportunities.

Dunman regained their defence in the final quarter and had several good intercepts. Dunman managed to extend their lead effortlessly and booked their spot in the top eight with a 77–32 win.

With this win, Dunman have qualified for round two, together with Unity Secondary. Unity, too, hold a 2–0 win–loss record after defeating Edgefield Secondary 68–58. On the other hand, Peicai and Edgefield have recorded their second loss and are eliminated from the championship.

Dunman’s captain, Joshua Alas (#4), said, “In terms of our defence, in the third quarter we kind of let it go a bit and our opponents took the opportunity. Also, there were some balls we didn’t put in properly. Overall, we did quite well and managed to hit our target.”

Peicai’s captain, Darren Ng (#11), commented, “I think that Dunman Secondary is a strong team and we played our best today. It was a great game. I felt that we did well in the second quarter because we had fewer turnovers and we tried very hard to keep the score as close as possible.”

Dunman will be playing Unity for the top spot in the group, while Peicai will next face Edgefield. Both games will be played on March 31, Tuesday, 4.15 p.m. at Clementi Sports Hall.
