PESEB, Wednesday, March 4, 2015 — Peicai Secondary defeated Queenstown Secondary 60–52 to finish third in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Darren Ng (#11) of Peicai led his team with a game-high 20 points while Tan Guo Liang (#9) of Queenstown paced his team with 15 points.

Both teams appeared to be evenly-matched early into the game as they took turns to put points onto the scoreboard and were tied at 14–14 with one minute left in the first quarter. Queenstown managed to pull away towards the end to take a slight lead 19–16.

Peicai displayed better ball control and Darren (#11) recorded a 7–0 run including a three-pointer which helped lift his team to a 25–21 lead. Peicai continued to extend their lead effortlessly into the third quarter, with strong defensive efforts and a couple of good runs. The third quarter ended with Peicai taking a 51–35 lead.

Queenstown stepped up their game and were hot on shooting, registering a 9–0 run halfway into the final quarter. They had good finishing on drives and displayed better teamwork. Despite their impressive fourth-quarter comeback, outscoring Peicai 17–9, it was a tad too late and Peicai won the game 60–52.

Peicai’s captain, Darren (#11), said, “The game today was great but we could have done better despite our win. We performed better in the third quarter as we had the least turnovers. Also, our defence was strong and we were confident in our shots.”

Queenstown captain, Guo Liang (#9), commented, “The game was not very good. We didn’t hustle hard enough for the ball. In the last quarter, we worked together more and hence, performed better. Overall, we lack communication and made careless mistakes. We hope to fight hard and come back stronger in the season.”
