Siloso Beach, Sentosa, Sunday, March 1, 2015 — The trio of Charmaine Soh, Low Yi Lun and Zhang Ailin highlighted the Mission Foods Beach Netball Festival, as they led their teams to top the Women’s Open and Mixed Open categories.

The trio played in both winning teams – Sparta of the Women’s Open and Tiger Prawns of the Mixed Open. In the Mixed Open final, national netballer Charmaine Soh knocked down a buzzer beater in overtime to oust 2014 champions Frenz, who featured renowned netball coaches Tan Khiok Sing and Jean Chia.

“We didn’t expect such good results and we also weren’t expecting to win the Mixed Open, which we decided to join just for fun. I’m very proud of everyone on my team,” said Zhang, who captains both Sparta and Tiger Prawns.

A record 64 teams participated in this year’s edition of the festival.

The teams played a street-style netball game with five categories – Women’s Open, Mixed Open and Women’s Under-23, Mixed Social and Women’s Social. The top three teams in each category also walked home with a special Mission Foods hamper.

Players also enjoyed various fringe activities, including the Mission Foods snack booth, Red Bull drink sampling, a photo booth, a pizza lunch and a fun shooting competition.

Talking about the appeal of beach netball and the growth in the event, Netball Singapore Marketing and Events Director, Jane Sng, said, “Mission Foods have been title sponsor of this event since 2012 and its annual growth in the number of teams taking part shows the interest in a fun event where netballers and newcomers to the sport can enjoy a great day out in a different setting to the normal playing courts. The support from Mission Foods and our other partners is crucial in the delivery of this event as we are delighted that this year has been another big success.”

“The event was very well organized by Netball Singapore, as well as our sponsor, Mission Foods. I feel that everything is very well-planned and we really enjoyed ourselves out there,” said Charmaine Soh.

Randall Tan, Brand Manager of Mission Foods South East Asia, said, “This is a fantastic event year after year. Mission Foods sees a lot of benefits behind it as we engage directly with the correct consumers and expose our brand to them.”
