Anglican High School, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 — Chung Cheng High (Main) (CCHMS) defeated Dunman High (DHS) 55–48 in the semi-final of the East Zone B Division Basketball Championship, securing a spot in the final.

Jarrett Yip (#9) of Chung Cheng led his team with a game-high 29 points while Erh Zhi Hong (#15) of Dunman High had a team-high 20 points.

Chung Cheng had a 3–1 win-loss record in the second round which placed them second in Group X. Dunman High School won all four games, finishing at the top of Group Y.

Chung Cheng had a good start, netting four points in under two minutes into the game. After which, it was a neck-and-neck affair with both teams taking turns to add points onto the scoreboard. Zhi Hong (#15) of Dunman High led his team’s attacks and was the only scorer on the team this quarter. He had five points in this quarter alone. Chung Cheng had a slight 6–5 lead at the end of the quarter.

Jarrett (CCHMS #9) led his team with his accurate scoring and composure, chalking up 10 points in this quarter, including two three-pointers. Chung Cheng managed to extend their lead further before they pulled away to 26–12 going into the half-time break.

Halfway through the third quarter, Dunman High changed their tactics. They managed to break through Chung Cheng’s defence and put up a close fight. This left Chung Cheng flustered, as they found themselves unable to break through Dunman High’s defence.

Dunman High held on to their momentum into the final quarter, with better defensive plays and good finishing. This enabled them to outscore Chung Cheng 19–11 in the last quarter. Unfortunately, their comeback came a tad too late and the game ended with Chung Cheng taking the 55–48 victory.

Chung Cheng captain, Sim Jia Ming (#5), said, “The team did well. There was a lot of teamwork. Our opponents were also quite aggressive. Both teams fought hard. We kept our spirits up throughout the game.”

Dunman High captain, Gerryl Pay (#4), said, “We didn’t stick to our game plan and were not calm enough, especially towards the end. We played better in the second half because we had the hunger to fight back and win.”

With this win, Chung Cheng will go on to face Dunman Secondary in the final at 3.20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3. Dunman High will play against Ngee Ann for third place at 3.20 p.m. on Monday, March 2. Both games will be held at Anglican High School.
