Hougang Sports Hall, Thursday, February 26, 2015 — CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent (STC) recorded their first win of the season after defeating Bishan Park Secondary (BPS) 13–3 in the first round of the National B Division Floorball Championship.
This is STC’s first win, as they had previously gone down 4–5 to St Margaret’s Secondary. With this win, STC currently hold a 1–1 win-loss record. Bishan Park, on the other hand, recorded their third straight loss of the season.
Bishan Park took the lead from the start, with Andrea Lim (#22) putting in the first two goals for her team. A two-minute penalty was given to Aleesha Begam (#20) of Bishan Park halfway through the period for body checking an opponent. STC capitalized on the opportunity to score their first goal through Rachel Ng (#26). STC held their composure, bagging another two goals to lead 3–2 after the first period.
In the second period, Bishan Park’s captain, Aleesha (#20), dribbled the ball from half-court and scored an impressive goal to encourage her teammates. However, STC stepped up defensively, making several steals and extending their lead with a 4–0 run to end the period with a 8–3 lead.
STC kept up their strong defensive efforts, which left Bishan Park struggling to gain possession of the ball in the third period. STC continued their scoring streak with a 5–0 run to seal their 13–3 victory over Bishan Park.
STC captain, Denise Ann (#24), said, “The game was okay but I think we could have done better with better stick work as we fumbled. We performed better in the last period because we did as much as we could and tried harder.”
STC will be up against Canberra Secondary on Monday, March 2, at 2.00 p.m. at Northland Secondary School, while Bishan Park will face Canberra Secondary on Monday, March 9, at 4.00 p.m. at Hougang Sports Hall.
