Jurong West Sports Hall, Monday, February 2, 2015 — Jurongville Secondary (JVS) held on to their lead from the start to beat Hong Kah Secondary (HKS) 37–17 for their third win in the first round of the West Zone B Division Netball Championship.

The win gives Jurongville a 3–0 win-loss record. JVS had previously defeated Pioneer and Hillgrove Secondary 28–12 and 29–24 respectively.

Hong Kah got off to an early lead with their accurate, short passes but their lead was short-lived as Jurongville fought back to even the score. JVS pulled away to lead 10–2 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Hong Kah scored three unanswered point while their opponents struggled to get settled. However, Jurongvile soon got into their shooting momentum and began to put goals on the score sheet. Shaky passing from HKS allowed JVS to intercept, which they capitalised by scoring on the other end. This gave Jurongville a 13-point lead by half time.

Hong Kah managed to intercept the ball in the center-third on a number of occasions which allowed them to pot in consecutive goals to narrow the deficit in the third quarter. HKS outscored JVS 8–7 to trail by eight (16-28) heading into the final quarter.

Jurongville came back in the final quarter, determined to keep the hard-earned lead they had built in the first half as they stepped up their aggression. Their tightened defence allowed Hong Kah to score only one goal in this quarter. Despite Hong Kah’s valient efforts to reduce the deficit, Jurongville’s strong first-half effort helped them to the eventual 37–17 victory.

Jurongville’s captain, Chong Hey Ee, said, “Hong Kah put up a good fight today, especially when they caught up in the third quarter. They communicated well on their defense and kept close to our attackers.”

“Our next match will be with Nanyang Girls’ High School, who are the toughest oppponents in our grouping. Regardless of the outcome, we’re just taking it one match at a time,” she added

Jurongville will play against third-seeded Nanyang Girls’ High School in their next match at 4.p.m on Friday, February 6, while Hong Kah will face Hillgrove at 3.p.m. on Friday on the same day. Both games will take place at River Valley High School.
