Singapore Basketball Centre, 30th January, 2015 – Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) defeated Seng Kang Secondary (SKS) 39–24 in the preliminary round of the North Zone B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

SCGS improved to a perfect 3–0 win-loss record, while Seng Kang dropped to a 1–2 win-loss record. SCGS advanced to the second round, while Seng Kang have completed their games for the season.

SCGS, the 2014 South Zone champions, were transferred to North Zone.

Rachel Yeo (SCGS #12) led SCGS with 12 points, while Seng Kang’s Nabila Aina (#12) had 13 points.

In the first quarter, both teams put up a strong defence. SCGS quick offensive plays allowed them to take an early lead. Nabila (SKSS #12) attempted multiple three pointers but made only one in the quarter. SCGS held a 15–8 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Rachel (SCGS #12) carried the SCGS offence. SCGS were quick on both ends, forcing multiple Seng Kang turnovers. SCGS took a 22–12 lead at the end of second quarter.

In the third quarter, Nur Bilah Izzah (SKS #4) attempted to drive in but was constantly blocked by SCGS defenders. Heng Xiao Jun (SKS #11) facilitated the ball well for lay-ups and shooting chances. Midway through the third quarter, SCGS used a full-court defensive press, denying Seng Kang any scoring chances.

Despite trailing 14 points in the fourth quarter, Seng Kang did not give up and put on a good fight till the end of the game. SCGS clinched the 39–24 victory, sending them into the second round.

Seng Kang captain, Heng Xiao Jun (#11) commented, “I felt that my team put up a good team spirit and persevered through the game despite the fast pace of the game. I felt that my own performance was average and I could do better. I also felt that some of the players must take it slowly and not rush through the game. As this is the last game for the senior girls, I feel that my juniors can improve more on their shooting and defence.”
