Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, January 26, 2015 — Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) survived a second-half scare to beat Singapore Polytechnic (SP) 46–44 and clinch the bronze medal in the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Basketball Championship.
Zoe Eng (#9) led SIM with 13 points, including four big fourth quarter points that won the game. SP’s Debbie Ngo (#12) and Lim Xin Yi (#13) recorded 18 and 12 points respectively in the contest.
While SIM enjoyed a favourable field goal percentage in the first half, Ngo’s (#12) shooting kept the game close for SP.
After the break, Ng Su Rui (#21) stepped up for SP on both ends to spur SP to a three-point lead. Along with Ngo (#12), the pair combined for 11 of SP’s 14 points, while limiting SIM to just a measly five points.
With just 26 seconds remaining, Eng (#9) came up big for SIM as she drove to the basket to tie the game at 44. SP could not convert their opportunity on the ensuing possession, giving SIM a chance to put the game away. Eng (#9) continued her heroics, making use of a defensive mismatch in the key to put in the game’s final two points.
