Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, January 26, 2015 — Behind clutch play from Lim Fang Cie (#28), Alistier Tay (#12) and John Ng (#6), Temasek Polytechnic (TP) handed Nanyang Technological University (NTU) a 50–55 loss to finish third in the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Basketball Championship.
Lim (#28) hit a dagger from beyond the arc to tie the game at 50 apiece with just under a minute left to play. Lim (#28), along with Tay (#12), scored TP’s remaining five points in quick succession. Ng’s (#6) well-timed block on Sean Hoo’s (#30) three-point attempt sealed the victory for the Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) champions.
Lim (#28) led TP with 13 points and teammate Wang Liang Rong (#8) added 10 points. Hoo (#30) chipped in 11 points for NTU.
Both teams were playing without their key players Thng Jun Rong (TP), Wong Wei Long (NTU) and Jabez Su (NTU), who are away with the national men’s team at the 20th Super Kung Sheung Cup Invitation Basketball Championship in Hong Kong. NTU’s Lim Wai Sian also sat out the game.
“For every game in this IVP, the winner is determined in the last few minutes of the game. Physically, everyone is equally fit. Whoever’s team has a stronger mindset, has better control of the pace, can follow and deliver the coach’s instructions will win the game,” said Rudy Tan (#23), TP’s captain.
