Singapore Institute of Management, Saturday, September 13, 2014 — Singapore Management University (SMU) defeated Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) 7–5 to record their third victory in the Singapore University Games (SUniG) Floorball Championship.

Jared Heng (#8) and Augustine Foo (#16) led SMU with two goals each, while Muhammad Za’im (#9) recorded a hat trick for SIT.

Jared Heng (#8) was the anchor of SMU’s offence, as he facilitated two goals as well. SIT goalie Abdul Hakim Johari (#99) had an excellent game, saving several SMU attempts.

About eight minutes into the game, Jared Heng (#8) beat his defender off the dribble to score SMU’s first goal. A minute later, Goh Bing Lu (#23) scored the equalizer off a free hit from Muhammad Za’im (#9).

With four minutes remaining, Muhammad Hamzah (#27) made a timely pass to Jared Heng (#8), facilitating the latter’s second goal. SMU held a 2–1 lead at the end of the opening period.

Early in the second period, Lim Dingjun (#89) gave SMU a 3–1 lead through an assist from Jared Heng (#8). Later, Muhammad Za’im (#9) responded a goal to keep the deficit at a single point.

With about five minutes to play, an incorrect push by Lim Dingjun (#89) resulted in a power play situation. Despite having a one-man disadvantage, SMU recorded their fourth goal of the game through Augustine Foo (#16). On the ensuing possession, an unmarked Muhammad Za’im (#9) recorded his second goal to keep SIT in the game.

In the closing seconds of the second period, Cédric Lüscher (#12) scored off a rebound, after a miss from Jared Heng (#8).

Just seconds into the final period, SIT’s Muhammad Za’im (#9) scored his third goal, off a hook shot from the left corner. Augustine Foo (#16) later responded with his second goal to extend SMU’s lead to two goals.

With less than two minutes remaining, an unmarked Jeremy Tan (#9) scored SMU’s seventh goal, sealing the game for good. With just a second remaining on the clock, Danial Azri (#27) scored a buzzer beater, but it was not enough as SMU claimed the 7–5 victory.

SIT goalie, Abdul Hakim Johari (#99), commented, “The team did really great today. We had team spirit throughout the entire SUniG season. We will definitely train harder, and beat all of them.”

SMU captain, Keane Chooi (#10), said, “It has been a pretty good competition this season. We started off strong, but we slipped up in the last game against SIM. Coming back to this game, our main objective was to get a win. Defensively, we were a bit more lax, but still, a win is a win.”

SMU currently hold a 3–1 win-loss record and will play their final round-robin game against Singapore University of Technology and Design on Tuesday, September 16. The game will be played at 7.30 p.m. at Singapore Institute of Management. SIT have ended their season with a 1–4 win-loss record.
