Nanyang Technological University, Thursday, September 11, 2014 — Nanyang Technological University (NTU) recorded a crushing 6–0 victory over Singapore Management University (SMU) in the Singapore University Games (SUniG) Football Championship.

The wet pitch did not stop the reigning champions who had a hat-trick from Jacob Chin (#15), two goals from Anders Alpin (#9) and a goal from Mohd Hyder (#7).

Just two minutes into the game, Anders Alpin (#9) dribbled his way into SMU’s penalty box to score NTU’s first goal. SMU argued for an offside violation but the referee stood by his decision.

SMU played good passes down the right flank, but their attempts were thwarted by NTU captain and left back, Sahairi (#3).

SMU’s opportunity to tie the game came when Keith Chnioh (#17) chipped the ball to Gideon Tan (#9) for an attempt, but was stopped short by NTU goalkeeper Muhammad Firdaus (#12).

Damir Skoko (#6) anchored NTU’s midfield offence and defence, setting up Anders Aplin (#9) on multiple occasions.

About 10 minutes later, after a steal from an SMU defender, Anders Alpin (#9) added another goal to give NTU the 2–0 lead at the end of the half.

Early in the second half, NTU’s Devesh (#11) stole the ball from SMU’s Marcus Tan (#6) and dribbled down the right flank to provide a low cross to Mohd Hyder (#7) for NTU’s third goal.

Just three minutes after coming off the bench, Jacob Chin (#15) contributed NTU’s fourth goal. In the next possession, Anders Alpin (#9) continued his good work down the right flank, drawing the defenders to himself before crossing the ball to Jacob Chin (#15) for NTU’s fifth goal.

SMU sealed their defeat when centre back Muhd Nuri (#26) missed a clearance in his own penalty box, allowing Jacob Chin (#15) to tap it into the net for his hat-trick.

SMU will next face Singapore Institute of Management, while NTU will play Singapore Institute of Technology. Both games will take place on Monday, September 15, at 7.30pm.
