Marina Bay Sands, Friday, August 29, 2014 — Marina Bay Sands announced its partnership with the Singapore ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (SAPGOC) and was named the Official Games Village for the 8th ASEAN Para Games at the 1st ASEAN Para Sports Federation Board of Governors’ Meeting.

Mr Lim Teck Yin, Chairman of SAPGOC, said, “Marina Bay Sands has proven to be an ardent supporter of para-sport with their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes. We are confident that the amenities available for the para-athletes will allow them the ease of accessibility and comfort throughout the Games duration.”

Selected for its accessibility and ability to support the Games, Marina Bay Sands will provide about 1,500 rooms to host athletes and officials during the Games. The integrated resort will also provide two conference halls and meeting rooms, which will be used for athletes’ social activities and fringe activities to create awareness on para-sports.

“We are also delighted to partner Marina Bay Sands to host exciting activities within the Games Village to generate the awareness and support among Singaporeans, and increase the participation of the community with special needs in sport,” added Mr Lim.

Mr Benny Zin, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Conventions and Exhibitions, Marina Bay Sands, said, “We are very honoured to partner SAPGOC and to have the opportunity to earn the title of Official Games Village for the 2015 ASEAN Para Games. Our CSR programme, Sands for Singapore, aims to inspire and help young people fulfil their potential, so we look forward to putting together a unique and awe-inspiring experience for all para-athletes and their caregivers.”

SAPGOC confirmed a total of 15 sports for the upcoming Games, which will be the most in the history of the Games.

The 8th ASEAN Para Games will take place next year at the Singapore Sports Hub, from December 3 through December 9. The Games is expected to have a participation of up to 3,300 overseas and local athletes, officials and international technical delegates.

“We are hosting the ASEAN Para Games for the first time and we wanted to give the community with special needs a variety of opportunities to compete,” said Mr Lim Teck Yin, who chairs SAPGOC. “The ASEAN Para Games is more than just excellence.
