Presbyterian High School, Friday, August 21, 2014 — Bukit Panjang Government High (BPGH) beat Dunman Secondary (DMN) 3–0 (25–15, 25–21, 25–11) and are through to the final of the National C Division Volleyball Championship. They will face Cedar Girls’ Secondary, who beat Nanyang Girls’ High School 3–0 in the other semi-final.

Bukit Panjang started out well behind the play of Serene Ng (BPGH #18). They were able to take a quick 7–2 lead. Dunman came back through the service of (DMN #13), winning them two straight points. Each time Bukit Panjang looked to be coming away with the game, Dunman found a way to stick close.

After a tip spike gave Bukit Panjang a 21–15 lead, Dunman felt that it was necessary to call a timeout to regroup. However, the timeout did not work as Bukit Panjang took the next four points and the first set.

The second period saw Dunman take an early lead. They specifically forced Yeo Eng Teng (BPGH #10) into a few receiving errors, which gave Dunman a 7–3 lead.

However, Serene Ng (BP #18) made good use of her service, leading her team back to tie the game up at 12–all. From that point, it was mostly in Bukit Panjang’s favour. The Dunman team had not much of a response for Serene’s spikes. Eventually, Bukit Panjang took the second set 25–21.

Dunman struggled early in the third set, as they made minor mistakes which gifted points to Bukit Panjang. Both Serene Ng (BPGH #18) and Rachel Chan (BPGH #4) were solid with their spikes, giving the Dunman players a lot of trouble on the receiving end. Serene was especially decisive with her play at the net, as she tipped the ball into areas which were difficult for the Dunman players to return. Her good vision allowed Bukit Panjang to roll along comfortably in the set, eventually winning 25–11.

Bukit Panjang captain, Serene Ng (#18), said, “It was an exciting but fun game for us. We enjoyed ourselves throughout the game and we had fun. We hope to meet Cedar Girls’ in the final. It will be a tough match between both teams.”
