The Singapore Swimming Association will be joining SAFRA in the annual Swim For Hope on October 12, 2014.

The annual event broke Singapore’s records for the most number of laps swum in six hours for the second year straight in 2013, thanks to the participation of NSmen and their families. All who were involved joined efforts to raise funds for charity.

Returning for its fourth instalment, annual event serves to give back to the community and it is organized to help needy NSmen and underprivileged children. For every lap, $1 is donated to selected beneficiaries. In 2012, the event managed to clock a total of 21,898 laps for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. 2013 saw an increase of more than 700 laps for three beneficiaries of the Community Chest.

This year, all donations will be given to the SAF Care Fund, Singapore Children’s Society and Aquatics Heart & Hope. In hope of setting a new Singapore record, the event has set a target of $50,000, which is double the amount raised previously. All five SAFRA clubs will be hosting the event to allow members of the public to contribute to this worthy cause.

With a contingent of 50 national athletes, the Singapore Swimming Association will be making a generous support of $5,000. At the press conference in June, the national athletes made a pledge to help SAFRA achieve their new goal. Among them are national swimmers Russell Ong, Arren Quek and national water polo team member Lee Kai Yang.

Through this cause, SAFRA seeks to encourage Singaporeans to adopt and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. National athletes will be conducting a free swimming seminar for beginners. There are only 200 slots available.

National swimmers Danny Yeo, Clement Lim and Pang Sheng Jun will be holding swim clinics on August 30, to provide knowledge on how to stretch effectively for vigorous activities, the importance of core stability for swimming techniques and prevention of injury.
