Singapore Basketball Centre, July 30, 2014 — North Vista Secondary (NVS) defeated Deyi Secondary (DYS) 47–45 in the final to clinch the North Zone C Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Jamie Chang (NVS #13) led all scorers with 13 points. Lim Jia Suen (DYS #11) had 15 points for her team.

In the first quarter, both teams took turns to take the lead. Deyi’s defence was strong, denying any open shots. North Vista attempted multiple layups but were rejected by Deyi’s defense. Poh Ke Hui (NVS #4) netted the go-ahead ball to give North Vista a 6–5 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, both teams had multiple turnovers. Luck was not on North Vista’s side as they missed multiple shots. A basket by Lim Jia Suen (DYS #11) ended the quarter with Deyi leading 20–18.

In the third quarter, North Vista attempted multiple shots to catch up with the score. Lydia Ang (NVS #14) tied the game at 21 apiece. Lim Jia Suen (DYS #11) responded with a layup. Despite her size, Jia Suen (DYS #11) attempted multiple shots over taller defenders. Ernie Syafiqah (NVS #11) gave North Vista a 30–28 lead to end the quarter.

The fourth quarter was intense as both teams exchanged leads. Jamie Chang (NVS #13) had multiple successful under-basketsto tie the game at 32 apiece. Deyi followed with a 6–0 run. Ernie Syafiqah (NVS #11) tied the game at 45 with only 23 seconds left on the buzzer. Deyi tried their best to defend but Jamie Chang (NVS #13) scored the winning basket to give North Vista the 47–45 win.

North Vista top scorer, Jamie Chang (NVS #13), commented, “I think the team displayed team work and communicated well. I think we can learn to communicate more next season.”

North Vista captain, Yuki Kung (#8), added, “I think we played very badly today because we were all very nervous. We must improve on our defence because we let the opponent have open underbaskets. I think we can do better next season.”

Deyi’s top scorer, Lim Jia Suen (DYS #11), commented, “I think we did quite well today, even though we lost by two points. We still have room for improvement.”

Deyi captain, Poon Xuan Ling (DYS #15), added, “Our team performed quite well and gained more fighting spirit through all the games. We will come back stronger. We can improve on our defence next year.”
