CHIJ Saint Theresa’s Convent, Monday, May 14, 2014 – Saint Theresa’s Convent (STC) dominated Bukit View Secondary (BVS) 7–1 to win their first game of the National C Division Floorball Championship.
Pearlynn Lim (STC #18) had a game-high four goals, while Theva Darshini D/O Vijakumar (STC #75) had three.
Saint Theresa’s Convent previously went down 3–8 to Tanjong Katong Secondary, while this is Bukit View’s first game of the season. Saint Theresa’s Convent were aggressive on attacks throughout the game, but faced low conversion. On the other hand, Bukit View’s defence was tepid but their goalkeeper made composed saves throughout the game.
Saint Theresa’s Convent were aggressive on attacks from the start of the game, but Bukit View goalkeeper Nur Nabilah Bte Jumahat (#33) managed to save all their shot attempts. Pearlynn (STC #18) and Shavonn Sng (STC #55) had several scoring opportunities, but the ball either went wide of the post or was saved. With five minutes to go, Pearlynn’s (STC #18) two shot attempts trickled past the goalkeeper and into the net, thus putting her team 2–0 up.
Early into the second period, Bukit View went on an aggressive attack, but Anupriya D/O Subramanian’s (BVS #21) shot flew above the post. Saint Theresa’s Convent then retained most of the possession for the rest of the period. Midway through the period, Pearlynn (STC #18) found the back of the net with the ball to up their lead to 3–0. After barely a minute, Theva Darshini (STC #75) scored their fourth goal. Thereafter, Saint Theresa’s Convent managed to go past Bukit View’s defence and found Theva Darshini (STC #75) with the ball. She slipped the ball into the post to make it 5–0.
Bukit View retained most of their possession in the final period. A foul by Alyssa Chan (STC #5) and messy substitution put Saint Theresa’s Convent in a power play situation with just three players on court.
Anupriya (BVS #21) took the chance to successfully break through Saint Theresa Convent’s defence, but her shot was too high over the post. Soon after, Saint Theresa’s Convent intercepted a rebound and found Pearlynn (STC #18) with the ball. She drilled the ball into the top left corner of the net to make it 6–0. STC’s (#25) scored their seventh goal with an easy tap-in while the Bukit View goalkeeper was distracted. Several other shot attempts were saved by the Bukit View goalkeeper.
Towards the end of the period, Bukit View managed to break through their opponents’ defence. In a moment of confusion around the post, Saint Theresa’s Convent conceded an own goal to end the game 7–1, registering their first win of the season.
Saint Theresa’s Convent captain, Pearlynn (#18), commented, “It was exciting because we played as a team and had school mates supporting. I think we aim to win round by round, because we don’t want the stress to affect our performance.”
Bukit View goalkeeper, Nabilah (#33), said, “It was disappointing, but I am proud of my team for giving their all.”
