Raffles Girls School, Wednesday, July 9, 2014 — Bukit Batok Secondary (BBS) came back from behind to beat Raffles Girls School (RGS) 6–5 in extra inning in the National C Division Softball Championship.

RGS came out strong in the first inning, picking up three runs on three walks and a couple of wild pitches. Bukit Batok came back in the bottom with Jia Xuan (#10) scoring a run on a single by Isabel (#8).

The second and third inning saw no runs scored.

Julia (BBS #29) scored a run after getting on base on a dropped third strike, and coming around on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning, to cut the deficit to just one run.

RGS responded in the fifth inning with Chloe (RGS #25) coming home on a wild pitch, after hitting a triple. Capitalising on errors by RGS, Bukit Batok scored two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game and force extra innings.

RGS scored a runner from second by placing down a sacrificial bunt to take the lead in the tie breaker. However one run wasn’t enough as Bukit Batok were able to tie the game with Julia (#29) scoring on a single by Desjuwannachai (#21). Desjuwannachai (#21) then scored home to give Bukit Batok the 6–5 win with a walk off single by Qamaria (#4).

Bukit Batok captain, Wang Xin Jie (#16) said, “It was a very dramatic game. Our teammates did a good job. We supported each other and didn’t give up till the very end. It was a very stressful game but I’m glad that the game went into extra innings. It gave us a chance to make a comeback and win the game.”

Julia Therese (BBS #29) who scored the tying run said, “I was very nervous as I was the tying run but also because I’m the slowest runner on the team. I had to be constantly reminded by coach to run faster.”

Desjuwannachai Natkamol (BBS #4), who scored the winning run, said, “Even though it was frustrating scoring the winning run on third, I was fortunate to be on third base as I carried the hopes of the team.”
