Singapore Basketball Centre, Thursday, July 3, 2014 — Yishun Secondary (YSS) defeated Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary (AIS) 26–17 in their second game in the first round of the North Zone C Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.

Regina Schiele (YSS #11) led all scorers with 12 points.

Nurul Jannah (AIS #13) scored the opening basket before Amelia Goh (YSS #10) tied the game. Both teams were playing good defence and did not allow each other to break through the defence to score. Zheng Song Ling (YSS #15) scored a basket to give Yishun the one-point 6–5 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter was rather intense with multiple lead changes. Eshlyne Yap (AIS #11) managed to break the tie just before the end of the quarter, to give Ahmad Ibrahim a 12–10 lead.

In the second half, Yishun reassumed the lead for the game. Ahmad Ibrahim only managed to obtain a single point in the fourth quarter with a free throw. Yishun held on to a nine-point lead to end the game 26–17.

Yishun will next play Northbrooks Secondary, while Ahmad Ibrahim will play Woodgroove Secondary on Wednesday, July 9.

Top scorer, Regina Schiele (YSS #11) commented, “This was a tough match, but I feel that my team had done their best. We still have to improve more on our attack and defence. I actually expected myself to do better. I’m excited as well as nervous for the rest of the upcoming games. I hope my team and I will continue to do well.”
