Senja-Cashew Community Centre, Sunday, May 25, 2014 — Siblings Sim Chee Siong and Sim Chee Keong teamed up to represent Jalan Kayu Community Sports Club (CSC) to compete in this year’s edition of the 3-on-3 Men’s Masters Basketball at the Community Games.

Elder brother Sim Chee Siong is the coach of the North Vista Secondary girls team, and the boys teams of Serangoon Garden Secondary and Punggol Primary. Younger brother Chee Keong leads the boys team at Bishan Park Secondary.

“It is good that we are playing together on the same team. It’s even better because we understand each other, share great team work and on-court communication,” said Chee Siong. The pair of brothers have been playing basketball together since they were in their teenage years.

“It is good to have such avenues for the older players to compete in. If we were to compete in the 5-on-5 competitions with the younger generation, our bodies would not be able to keep up with their pace. Besides, we can see many of our good old friends at such competitions as well,” the 49-year-old added in Mandarin.

“It will be good to have more of such competitions for us to pit our skills against each other. These are one of the ways where we can still keep fit,” said Chee Keong. While Chee Siong already has a wealth of experience under his belt, this is the first 3-on-3 Men’s Masters Basketball Games for 48-year-old Chee Keong.

Despite their respective work and family commitments, the brothers make it a point to play together at least once a week. When apart, Chee Siong plays the sport in his neighbourhood about twice weekly, while Chee Keong and his son plays together almost daily.

The Jalan Kayu CSC team finished the tournament in second place, after going down 12–18 to Yio Chu Kang CSC in the Central district final. Jalan Kayu CSC were the victors of their earlier match-up in the group stage with a score of 12–11.
