Republic Polytechnic, Thursday, May 15, 2014 — Yishun Junior College (YJC) maintained their winning streak by defeating National Junior College (NJC) 8–0 in the preliminary round of the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship.
They beat River Valley High School (3–0), Catholic Junior College (4–1) and Temasek Junior College (5–0) previously.
YJC started the first period well. Erica Chan (YJC #10) controlled the flanks as she drove the ball past the defenders each time. This performance was repeated in the second period as well, providing her with the opportunity to score a hat-trick as YJC led 6–0 after two periods.
Erica’s wing play also created space for Liu Shao Lun (YJC #7) to score from the centre. Despite having plenty of possessions, NJC were unable to convert them to goals. A tight YJC defence also helped their goalkeeper shut out NJC.
In the final period, an own goal by Yan Junfei (NJC #3) added to NJC’s misery before Amanda Tang (YJC #13) scored the final goal in the 8–0 victory.
YJC captain, Siti Muliyanti (#26), said, “The game was intense as the NJ girls were very fast. But at least we were okay with the passes, where although they came hard at us, we still managed to control the play.”
Last year, finished second. Siti commented, “Last year we lost to Meridian Junior College largely because their stick-work was better and we also made the mistake of giving them space to turn and shoot.”
