Bedok Green Secondary School, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 — Raffles Institution (RI) clinched their fourth consecutive title with a 3–0 win over Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)] in the final of the National A Division Softball Championship.

RI were undefeated throughout the season. This is the third matchup between these two teams. The first time both teams met in round one, RI dominated ACS(I) 15–0. The second time was in the playoffs, where RI emerged with an 11–5 victory.

RI came out strong in the first inning, picking up an easy thre- up, three-down on ACS(I) to start the game. They then went on to score three runs. Schuyler Seah (RI #71) got walked and Malcolm Lim (RI #46) placed down a safety bunt.

With two runners on base, Shamus Lee (RI #22) and Andrew (RI #15) hit back-to-back ground rule doubles to score three runs to take an early 3–0 lead in the game.

RI pitcher, Schuyler Seah (RI #71) held ACS(I) hitless till the third inning, when the no-hitter was broken up by Niels (ACSI #27).

ACS(I) saw an opportunity to come back in the fourth inning with David (ACSI #13) on third base and Ryota Wong (ACSI #1) on second base with one out. However, RI picked up two back-to-back strike outs to end the inning.

Schuyler Seah (RI #71) then got three consecutive strike outs to end the game.

RI captain, Daniel Lim (#3), said, “We came in strong in the first inning. We made good hits and the runs came in. Our defence was strong, especially our pitcher, Schuyler Seah. We did well holding them down even though we were unable to score any more runs after the first inning.”

ACS(I) captain, Jerel Tan (#17), said, “We struggled in the first inning. When we were able to finally gain momentum, it was too late. I admit that we were weaker. Raffles played better and they are worthy winners.”
