Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 — Two goals in the second period were enough for Temasek Junior College to overcome Tampines Junior College 2–1 in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship. Charlene Oh (#18) and Lu Yun Ru (#16) both chipped in a goal to lead their team to victory.
TPJC had a good start as Sabrina Soong (TPJC #20) found the net early in the period. The goal put TJC on the back foot almost immediately, as TPJC were attacking aggressively in their area. The TJC keeper did well to keep out any shots for the rest of the period, leaving them down only one goal.
A completely different TJC emerged in the second period. The team seemed more intent on attacking and creating opportunities as compared to the first period. This tactic eventually paid off when a shot from Charlene Oh (TJC #18) trickled into the net after it was saved by the keeper. Lu Yun Ru (TJC #16) sealed the deal by scoring the second goal, putting the team ahead towards the end of the period.
The final period saw TPJC in a desperate attempt to seek out an equaliser. They had the majority of shot attempts in the quarter, but the TJC keeper was more than up to the challenge. She was able to shut out TPJC in the final frame and sealed the 2–1 win for TJC.
TJC captain, Zenly Ching (#31), said, “I think it was a good game for us. We fought back and showed them that we really wanted to win. When we conceded the goal, we kept telling ourselves that we did not want to lose by just one goal and that the game is not over until the final buzzer sounded. We didn’t want to leave any regrets on the court. We hope to do our best and reach the final.”
