Republic Polytechnic, Monday, May 5, 2014 — A last minute equaliser by Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)] resulted in a 51-51 tie with Anderson Junior College (AJC) in the first round of the National A Division Netball Championship. With both teams holding a prior 1-1 win-loss record, AJC are through to the second round based on a point differential tiebreaker while ACS(I) are eliminated.

With the two teams matching each other almost point for point, the first quarter ended with AJC taking a 14–13 lead.

ACS(I) upped their defensive play but AJC held on to a 28–27 lead at the end of the second quarter.

ACS(I) edged ahead of AJC through their defensive play to end the third quarter with a 39–38 lead.

AJC managed to pull ahead of ACS(I) again by a small margin in the final quarter. It was in the last two minutes of the match that ACS(I) managed to score three goals to tie the game at 51 apiece.

AJC captain, Venessa, said, “I thought it was a 50-50 chance that we would win, so it really mattered to us. Hopefully we can get into finals, so that we can make history out of it.”

ACS(I) captain, Tan Xin Yi, said, “Honestly, this match was quite unexpected because we had very high expectations. But nonetheless, we learn from our mistakes and will continue and come back again faster, better, harder, and stronger.”

Her co-captain, Tan Man Yun, said, “I expected us to have a tough fight with AJC. At the end, I am very proud of the way we came back and really fought.”
