Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) completed a sweep of the Boys 4×50 metres medley relay events when their A Division boys team clinched the medley gold medal with a time of 1 minute 46.67 seconds at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships.

The quartet of Teong Tzen Wei, Lok Yan Han, Jerryl Yong and Quah Zheng Wen added to the gold medal haul from both the B and C Boys teams, completing the sweep for ACS(I) in the event.

Zheng Wen also swam 25.68 seconds in the backstroke leg to better his personal best of 25.92s, setting an unofficial national record.

Raffles Institution came in second with a time of 1 minute 48.80 seconds, while Temasek Junior College were third with a time of 1 minute 51.89 seconds.

Zheng Wen and Jerryl were in last year’s ACS(I) team, along with Lionel Khoo and Wang Yi, that set the current record of 1:45.80.

Tzen Wei, who anchored the team home in the freestyle leg, said, “It felt great as we gave it our all. We made safe starts so that we wouldn’t disqualify ourselves. I am quite happy that we were able to sweep all three divisions.”

Yan Han, who swam the breaststroke leg, said, “I am very honoured to be part of the winning team and also to achieve the sweep. It is a nice way to end my swimming career as this will be my last year.”

Jerryl said, “I am quite happy and pleased to have defended the title from last year. We all worked together and put our school before our personal interests. I would like to thank our teachers and school for support.”

Zheng Wen said, “It was great to have won both the relay and swept the division. The fact that I broke the record was a bonus, but I am not sure if it will stand officially.”
