55th National Schools Swimming Championships A Division 200m Breaststroke

Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Samantha Yeo of Raffles Institution finished her A Division 200m Breaststroke final in 2 minutes and 34.17 seconds at the 55th National Schools Swim Championships to emerge first.

Samantha broke the 2011 meet record of 2:37.16 which was set by Cheryl Lim. For this event, Samantha’s 2010 C Division record of 2:36.96 remains unbroken. Her personal best and current national under-17 record is 2:32.34, and has also swam 2:33.26 this year.

Amanda Tam of Singapore Sports School came in 14 seconds after Samantha to finish second, while Grace Tan of Raffles Institution came in third with 3:03.67.

Samantha, a two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist in this event, was the only swimmer to complete each of her first three laps in under 40 seconds, and then hit 40.99 seconds for the final one. Silver medallist, Amanda, took only 38 seconds to complete her first lap and maintained a constant timing of about 43 seconds per lap in the final three. She paced her way to win silver.
