Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, April 21, 2014 — Dunman Secondary (DMN) disposed of Yishun Town Secondary (YTS) 71–43 in the semi-final of the National B Division Girls Basketball Championship. Nur Adlina (DMN #14) led all scorers with 19 points, while Ho Wei Ting (YTS #10) paced her team with 10 points.

This is Dunman’s fifth consecutive appearance in the national final since 2010. They won titles in both 2011 and 2013. They will face Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, who beat Jurong Secondary 52–41 in the other semi-final.

Dunman raced out to an early lead in the first quarter. Putri (DMN #15) was able to score and get the momentum started for her team. She contributed seven points in the quarter. Yishun Town were unable to put points on the board consistently. Even when they went to the free throw line, they missed most of them.

Yishun Town looked more settled down in the second quarter, as they were more assertive on offence. Ho Wei Ting (YTS #6) and Lim Bei Xuan (YTS #11) combined for 12 points in the quarter. Dunman kept pace with their scoring. Thus, they were able to take a nine-point lead into the half-time break.

Yishun Town encountered a scoring drought in the third quarter, as their shots started to miss. This allowed Dunman to extend the lead. By the end of the quarter, Dunman were up by a comfortable 20 points.

The large lead meant that Dunman could afford to send in their reserves to close out the game. They did a commendable job to hold the fort in the absence of the starters. They even extended the lead to 28 points before the game ended. Dunman took the 71–43 win, setting up a clash with Singapore Chinese Girls’ School for the title. They will face them on Thursday, April 24 at Jurong East Sports Hall at 1pm.

Dunman top scorer, Nur Adlina (#14), said, “We were mentally not there in our previous games. So we encouraged each other throughout this game as we wanted the win badly. Singapore Chinese Girls’ School is a very hardworking team, so we have to work doubly hard to win.”
