Clementi Sports Hall, Thursday, April 17, 2014 — In a match up between the top two teams in the group, North Vista beat Dunman 45–36 in the second round of the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship. Dorjee (NV #4) led all scorers with 17 points, while Darren Ng (DMN #6) scored 8 points to pace his team.

Both teams struggled to find their offensive footing throughout the game. North Vista were able to come out on top on the defensive end to take the win.

Christian Pepito (NV #5) started things off for North Vista with a three-pointer. However, that would be one of only three three-pointers made throughout the game for North Vista. Dunman were unable to drive to the rim properly, hence they settled for long jumpers.

The second quarter saw both teams settle for jumpers on offence. There were very little shot attempts at the rim. Shiek Ridwan (NV #10) was a defensive presence in the paint. He swatted away a couple of Dunman lay ups, which awed the audience. North Vista held a slim 3–point lead heading into the second half.

The third quarter saw Dunman take the lead for the first time. Xu Teck Chong (DMN #5) scored four straight points to put his team up by three. However, North Vista were able to fight back. Dorjee (NV #4) was able to draw fouls on two consecutive possessions. He converted the first foul-in and the two subsequent free throws to put his team up by one.

North Vista’s defence showed some signs of life in the final quarter. Their full court press were able to force turnovers on Dunman’s ball handlers. This allowed North Vista to extend the lead to a comfortable nine points towards the end of the match.

North Vista ended the game 45–36 winners. They will now face Unity Secondary in the semi-final on Monday, April 21 at Clementi Sports Hall at 2.45pm.

North Vista captain, Dorjee (#4), said, “I am very happy with the win. It has been a while since we reached the semi-final. We have already achieved our target in this respect. It won’t be easy against Unity, but we will try our best. We haven’t been shooting well the past few games, so hopefully we get it right against Unity.”
