Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 — Raffles Institution (RI) clinched first place in the boys’ C Division 4×100 metres relay at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

The quartet of Dylan Lim, Malcom Seah, Isaac Toh and Joshua Chua clocked a time of 45.81 seconds to retain their title for the third time on the trot.

Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) (ACS(I)) finished second with a time of 45.90s, while Hwa Chong Institution came in third with 46.52s.

RI were trailing in the first half of the race, but were able to make up ground with their final two runners to edge out ACS(I) by a mere 0.09 seconds.

RI’s anchor, Joshua Chua, took over the baton with his team in third place. The 100m and 100m hurdles champion reeled in Hwa Chong’s last runner, Darius Ng, almost immediately, before going toe-to-toe with ACSI’s anchor, Joshua Lim, who was passed about 20m from the finish.

RI’s winning time is identical to last year’s one, when Joshua had also anchored his team to a close victory over Singapore Sports School.

Joshua said, “We were behind for the first and second runners, but we had faith in the team to pull it off. It really is a team effort. I don’t think I could have achieved this without them. When I run, I always put the team first. I want to thank my parents, coaches, friends and God for this win.”

The meet record is held by Singapore Sports School, whose runners clocked a time of 44.93 seconds in 2007.

RI’s winning time is the joint-sixth fastest in this event and division in the history of these championships. The 46-second barrier has been breached nine times in the C Division. Sports School have done so four times, ACS(I) three and RI twice.
