Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Philip Wong of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) bagged the C Division boys’ 1500m gold with a timing of 4 minutes 35.67 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships. Philip also clinched the 800m gold earlier in the championships.

Thiruben of National Junior College came in second in 4:36.12, while Syed Hussein of Pasir Ris Secondary School finished third in 4:39.84.

The ACS(I) student commented, “It feels really good. I feel that I have conquered both events.”

In last year’s edition, Philip only managed to finish in 16th position due to a bad fall during the race.

“It is really special to be able to clinch the gold medals for both the 800m and 1500m races to make up for last year. I want to thank my teachers, classmates, teammates, my family, and lastly God, because without Him, none of these would have happened,” added Philip.

The C Division 1500m record is 4 minutes 21.37 seconds and was set by Victoria School alumna, Kannan Poobalan, in 1997.

Syed Hussein’s medal is Pasir Ris Secondary’s first at the Schools’ meet since 1990, when they won one gold and three silver medals in the Boys’ C Division.
