Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Fatimah Zahra of Cedar Girls’ Secondary jumped a personal best of 1.55m to win gold in the girls’ C Division high jump final at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

The meet record is held by Low Seow Ting of Cedar Girls’, who jumped 1.60m in 2013 to set the record. This mark is also the national under-15 record which Seow Ting shares with ex-Cedarian Sun Ruiyi.

Jezebel Koh of Singapore Sports School finished second with a jump of 1.50m, while Choun Ray Yi of Nanyang Girls’ High School was third with 1.43m. Ray Yi took third place on a count back, as she cleared 1.40m on her first attempt.

Fatimah had previously clinched silver in the event in 2013. The Cedar Girls’ student commented, “It feels great to win, as I have trained really hard for this. Through the injuries and all the hardship, it’s always the mentality that will guide me through this.”

“I want to thank my teacher, coaches and especially my dad. He actually missed an overseas trip to come here and support me for this event. I think that I could have cleared 1.57m after trying just now, although I really did not expect to even clear 1.55m. Hopefully, I will be able to break that barrier next year,” added Fatimah.

Fatimah becomes the sixth Singaporean female to jump at least 1.55m this year. The others are Goh Chui Ling (1.60m), Valerie Cheong (1.60m), Michelle Sng (1.60m), Estella Ng (1.58m) and Kon Pei Ying (1.55m). There were four last year, five in 2012 and 2011, and four in 2010.
