Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Friday, April 11, 2014 — Jordan Chia of Raffles Institution (RI) clinched gold in the boys’ B Division Shot Put with a throw distance of 14.02 metres at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

Eric Yee of Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) clinched the silver medal with a 13.61 metre throw, and Kang Jun Jie of Singapore Sports School finished third with 13.55 metres.

Jordan was the only athlete in the event to throw a 14-metre distance, while the others registered throws of 10 to 13 metres.

Jordan, who improved on his personal best of 13.74m, said: “I would like to thank my coach, Mr Choo Chee Kiong, who helped to train me in shot put, which is my pet event.”

HCI’s Eric commented, “It was surprising that I came in second as I am a discus thrower. Yet I felt I could have done better as I dropped the ball on my foot. But I am happy with the result.” Eric had broken the B Division and national under-17 discus mark en route to the gold medal on April 3rd.

The top three of Jordan, Eric and Jun Jie have finished in the top three together for the fourth time in the Schools’ meet. The trio shared the podium in the B Division discus this year, as well as last year’s C Division shot put and discus.
