Clementi Sports Hall, Thursday, April 10, 2014 — North Vista Secondary (NVS) opened their second round with a 75–61 win over Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) (ACS(BR)) in the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship. Christian Pepito (North Vista #5) led all scorers with 17 points, while Kelvin Frany (ACS(BR) #14) paced his team with 14 points.

The win puts North Vista joint-top of Group B along with Dunman Secondary. Both teams sport a 1–0 win–loss record.

North Vista drew first blood, hitting two quick three-pointers to give them a six-point lead. However, ACS(BR) were able to creep back into the game behind the defence of Misheel Bayaraa (ACS(BR) #6). Misheel (ACS(BR) #6) forced a couple of North Vista turnovers, which he took advantage of to score on the other end. This gave ACS(BR) a slim five-point lead heading into the break.

Sherman Seet (ACS(BR) #10) and Misheel (ACS(BR) #6) combined well in the second quarter for ACS(BR). They contributed eight points in the period. North Vista took a lot of three-point attempts, but were unable to convert them. Despite that, they still found a way to hang close with ACS(BR). They were down only five points at the half-time break.

The second half saw North Vista’s fortunes change for the better. Shiek Ridwan (North Vista #10) had a good show down low, blocking most of ACS(BR)’s attempts at the rim. On the offensive end, Sim Zhen (NVS #13) poured in 11 points to help his team grab the lead.

The final quarter was the icing on the cake for North Vista, as their three-pointers started to connect. They made a total of seven three-pointers in the period. They mostly came off open shots, courtesy of good ball movement by the North Vista players. In the end, North Vista won 75–61. They will next face Raffles Institution on Monday, April 14 at 2.45pm at Clementi Sports Hall. ACS(BR) take on Unity at the same time on the adjacent court.

North Vista’s Sim Zhen (#13), said, “We weren’t that good at the start. Our second half was better for us, especially when we shot well towards the end. Dunman will be the biggest threat to us in our group.”
