Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, April 7, 2014 — Dunman Secondary (DMN) avoided elimination by beating Unity Secondary 55–53 in the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship. Lee Ko Vic (#8) led all scorers with 18 points. Joshua Alas (DMN #7) and Xu Teck Chong (DMN #5) both chipped in 11 points apiece as they led their team to the win.

Dunman and Unity both progress to the second round with identical 2–1 win–loss records. A loss in this game would have sent Dunman packing from the tournament.

The first quarter saw Dunman’s duo of Joshua Alas (DMN #7) and Tan Yi Rong (DMN #12) run rampant over the Unity front court. Both players were able to snag offensive boards, which allowed Dunman extra chances to score. Unity’s offence struggled, as they were unable to penetrate into the paint.

Dunman opened up a 10-point lead in the second quarter on the back of strong front court play. They had an 11–0 run to start the period. Unity were unable to find a basket in this period, as they missed most of their jumpers. Dunman were decisive on the break, scoring before Unity could react.

Unity started to come back in the third quarter. Their defence started to make stops against Dunman, allowing them to trim the deficit. Unity rode a 7–0 run at the end of the quarter to trim the deficit. They went into the final quarter down only three points.

Lee Ko Vic (Unity #8) stepped up for Unity in the final quarter, scoring eight points. He was instrumental in helping bring Unity to within two points of Dunman with 30 seconds left. However, Joshua Alas (DMN #7) sealed the game, scoring a layup to give his team a four-point lead with 13 seconds left. Dunman emerged 55–53 winners and now move on to the second round of Nationals.
