Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Friday, April 4, 2014 — Kon Pei Ying of Nanyang Girls’ High won the girls’ B Division high jump with a leap of 1.53m at the 55th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.

Pei Ying was two centimetres off her personal best of 1.55m set in February 2014 at the Singapore Athletic Association Series 2 meet. That clearance of 1.55m had qualified her for the Southeast Asia Youth Championships in Myanmar at the end of this month.

She was the first runner-up in the girls’ C Division high jump event in 2012 and finished third a year later when she made her debut in the B Division.

Cheryl Lim of Nanyang Girls’ attained second placing with a height of 1.43m, while Tiffany Chan of CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ claimed third place with 1.40m.

Cheryl’s silver-medal winning height was the lowest in this division since 1991.

One of the favourites to take this competition by storm was Low Seow Ting of Cedar Girls’ Secondary, but she did not compete this year as she is nursing an injury. A two-time defending C Division champion, she set the current championship record of 1.60m last year, having equaled the previous one in her first year of competition at the Schools’ meet in 2012. Seow Ting is also the co-national under-15 record holder.

The B Division record is 1.64m and was set by Michelle Sng Suat Li, then of Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, in 2003. Michelle holds the current national record of 1.80m.
