Physical and Sports Education Branch, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 — Peirce Secondary beat Regent SEcondary 14–12 in the 3rd-placing match in the National B Division Boys Rugby Championship.

Peirce and Regent both held a 3–2 win-loss record before this game. Peirce were the bowl champions last year but did not make it to the final this year.

Peirce were attacking aggressively from the start of the game and got close to the goal line several times, but Regent managed to bring the ball carriers down with their tackles. Regent also won most of the line-outs in the first half.

Magnan Tan (Peirce #18) scored the first try of the game. He received the ball near the goal line, then ran ahead of his opponents to ground the ball. His teammate converted to put Peirce 7–0 up.

Towards the end of the first half, Husein (Regent #7) broke out of Peirce’s defence to score a try. Irvin (Regent #14) converted to level at 7–7 going into the halftime break.

Husein (Regent #7) received a yellow card at the start of the second half. Following that, Adam Vine (Peirce #13) added another try to the scoresheet and Muhammad Syafiq (Peirce #10) converted for his team to take a seven-point lead (14–7).

Ariffikarimil (Regent #8) scored a try, but due to aggressive defending by his opponents, the ball was grounded too far away from the posts and Basir (Regent #14) failed to convert from an acute angle.

Regent trailed 12–14 and kept attacking to try and add more points, but Peirce defended well to deny them a comeback and secure third place with a 14–12 victory.

Peirce captain, Ahmad (#30), said, “My team really put their 100 percent out today, especially their defence. We really wanted to win this game as we lost in the semi-final.”
