Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 31, 2014 — Singapore Sports School (SSP) beat Crescent Girls’ School (CGS) 29–20 in the National B Division Netball Championship.

SSP achieved 3rd place in the B Div Nationals last year, placing high expectations on their performance.

The first two quarters saw Sports School put together good team play and effective passing. Their accurate shooting saw them lead 20–8 by half time.

Crescent Girls’ managed to up their game in the third quarter by mirroring Sports School’s swift passing, outscoring Sports School 5–4 in the quarter to reduce the deficit to nine points heading into the final quarter.

The last quarter saw Crescent Girls’ fighting hard for ball possession and pinning Sports School in their own half. Sports School fouls also provided an opportunity for Crescent Girls’ to catch up. At one point in the final quarter, Crescent Girls’ scored five consecutive points and eventually outscored Sports School 7–5, but the early lead allowed Sports School to wrap up a 29–20 victory.

Captain of Sports School, Tan Zay Hua, said, “Though we played well in the first two quarters, it was evident that Crescent Girls’ played better in the last two quarters. I think it was the lack of communication between the defenders and attackers. The transition from the second to third quarter saw the substitution of players and I guess we couldn’t adapt to the changes fast enough.”
