Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 31, 2014 – St. Margaret’s defeated Anderson Secondary 41-14 match to enter Round 2 of the National B Division Netball Championship.
A 15–2 third quarter saw St. Margaret’s pull away for good in the game.
St. Margaret’s controlled the pace of the game well within the first quarter of the game with fast and immaculate passes, leaving no room for intercepts of pocket balls. Anderson trailed behind in the first quarter.
SMSS had good team chemistry coupled with near flawless shots to outscore Anderson 7–3 in the first quarter.
Despite a comfortable lead, St. Margaret’s did not let their guard down. Instead, they worked even harder to increase their lead to eight points at half time with focused, swift play. The second quarter saw St Margaret’s dominate with a succession of turnovers.
Anderson’s defense struggled as St. Margaret’s outscored them 15–2 in the third quarter as they used their court space effectively. A 9–3 final quarter wrapped up the win for St. Margaret’s.
Captain of St. Margaret’s, Michelle Lee, said, “I didn’t think that my team played very well. There are still much that we can improve on since I observed that we played better in training. We could use stronger fighting spirit as well as better communication and chemistry among the players.”
