Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Saturday, March 29, 2014 — Republic Polytechnic (RP) beat Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) 18–12 to emerge as the women’s champions at the Tertiary Tchoukball Championship.

RP had beaten Singapore Polytechnic (SP) in the semi-finals while SIM won their semi-final match against NUS.

It was merely 30 seconds into the match when Amy Tan (RP #10) scored the opening point, with the home crowd cheering on ecstatically. Ye Yimei (SIM #7) then scored the first point for SIM shortly after. With the score at 2—2, RP managed to score four unanswered points to pull away to 6–2.

On one occasion, Yimei (SIM #7) made a futile attack when the ball missed the frame, gifting one point to RP. Ng Joey (RP #14) managed a successful throw before E Qiao Sian (SIM #22) replied to break the RP scoring streak. SIM went on to outscore RP 3–2 in the remaining moments of the first half to trail by four points (6–10) at half time.

RP were the first to score in the second half, going on a four-point scoring streak through Cheryln Chau (RP #7), Ng Joey (RP #14) and Joycelyn Teo (RP #20). E Qiao Sian (SIM #22) again stepped up to break the RP scoring streak. The two teams were evenly matched for the rest of the half, with RP outscored 4–5. However, they had established enough of a lead to finish 18–12 winners.

Amy Tan, captain of RP said, “I think the match went quite well for us. We did not rush for every single ball we caught and we let the opponent sub into our pace. I believe that my team is able to win as champions as we have the skills in terms of competing with the other teams. As a team, we had set our goals for the top 3, but our coach believed that we are able to win the championship as we have the capability.”
