Kallang Diamond, Thursday, March 6, 2014 — Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TKGS) defeated River Valley High School 3-1 to advance to the final of the National B Division Softball Championship.
After a close win over CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent to advance to the semi-final, TKGS were facing a River Valley High team that had topped their group in Round 2.
The first inning started with River Valley High unable to score any runs despite having the bases loaded.
TKGS did no better in the bottom of the first inning with three straight outs.
There were still no runs when River Valley also went scoreless in the second inning.
After getting walked,Yeo Gin Lin (TKGS #21) managed to capitalise on the error made by Xin Yu (RVHS #92) to scored the first run of the game for Tanjong Katong Girls’ in the bottom of the second.
River Valley responded in the third inning with Cao Yue Shan (RVHS #16) scoring a run to tie the ball game at 1–1.
TKGS came back in the bottom of the third inning to score two runs which eventually decided the fate of the game.
The fourth inning saw neither team able to score any runs.
Despite a comeback effort by River Valley in the fifth inning, TKGS held them scoreless to win the game 3–1.
TKGS will face CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent in the final.
TkGS last met St. Theresa’s in the second round and beat them 3–1.
This is the second time they will be meeting in a final. St. Theresa’s beat TKGS 7–3 in 2013 to clinch the national championship.
When asked how she felt about the game, captain Sanggita Supranamiam (TKGS #7) said that she was very happy about winning the game and that everyone played well. They did not give up and persevered till the end. She would also like to thank the other team for a good game.
