Kallang Diamond, Thursday, 6 March 2014 – CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent (STC) defeated Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) 7–3 in the National B Division Softball Championship to secure a spot in the final.

Dinie Raman (STC #5) and Amanda Pang (STC #2) led all the St. Theresa’s team in scoring as they defeat RGS to a earn a trip to the finals.

St. Theresa’s started off with Dinie Raman (STC #5) and Nastassha Tan (STC #10) scoring a run each for a 2–0 lead. They also managed to keep RGS scoreless during the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead into the second.

Although RGS managed to hold St. Theresa’s to only one run by Amanda Pang (STC #2) in the second inning, they did not manage to score a single run in the bottom of the second. St. Theresa’s led 3-0 at the end of the second inning.

During the third inning, St. Theresa’s exploded with three runs by Hillary Giam (STC #80), Cheo Ai Lin (#12) and Amanda Pang (STC #2).

RGS finally got their first run in the third inning through Jia Qian (RGS #9). The third inning ended with St. Theresa’s leading 6–1.

Riding on the momentum from the first three innings, Captain of St. Theresa’s, Dinie Raman (STC #5), hit a home run to bring the score to 7–1 at the top of the fourth inning.

RGS came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs through Sakinah (RGS #31) and Kai Yun (RGS #37) to close the gap to 7–3.

In the fifth inning, both teams’ defence held firm and no further runs were scored, leaving St. Theresa’s 7–3 winners.

Captain of St. Theresa, Dinie Raman (STC #5), said, “We did our best to achieve what we wanted. We also trusted our coach, and really had fun out there, which was our main objective throughout every game during the season.”

When asked about her home run that seemed to have given the St. Theresa’s girls an extra boost of momentum, Dinie answered, “I’m just proud of myself to have contributed to the team’s win.”

Coach Collin of St. Theresa’s said, “The girls did a good job, bringing the right attitude and a great momentum from the start till the end of the game. My expectation for them going into the finals is just like every game, have fun and enjoy, treat it like just another game.”
