PESEB, Monday, March 3, 2014 — Raffles Institution (RI) defeated Fairfield Methodist School 59-47 in the semi-final to qualify for the final of the South Zone B Division Boys Basketball Championship.

Chean Shao Jie (RI #6) led all scorers with 20 points, while Jovi Lim (RI #11) had 16 points. Fairfield (#10) led his team with 15 points.

Through three quarters, Raffles executed strong defensive plays to contain Fairfield. On the offensive end, Raffles managed to pull away despite missing quite a number of their attempts. Raffles held a 48–26 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Not to be outdone so easily, Fairfield mounted a strong comeback in the final quarter. FMS (#10) led his team on the offensive end. He controlled the ball well and created multiple opportunities for his teammates. Fairfield outscored Raffles 21–11 in the final quarter, but it was not enough as Raffles held on to secure a spot in the final with a 59–47 victory.

Shao Jie (RI #6) commented, “We made many mistakes during the fourth quarter that allowed them to catch up. I think the team has already given their best but I believe we can still do better. I felt that our defence and communication can be improved further. The opponents were strong and played well too.”

Raffles Institution will take on Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) in the final, which will be played on March 6, at Jurong East Sports Hall.
