Anglican High School, Thursday, February 6, 2014 — Crescent Girls’ School (CGS) shook off earlier losses to post a convincing 18–0 win over hosts Anglican High School (AHS) in the B Division Girls’ Softball Championship.

Crescent Girls’ got off to a roaring start in the first inning, taking advantage of sloppy pitching and fielding by Anglican High. AHS (#12) had a torrid time on the mound, pitching multiple passed balls, which allowed Crescent Girls’ to advance their runners on base each time. Behind the very vocal support of their bench, Crescent Girls’ managed to put their first seven batters on base before Anglican High finally took their first out with a strikeout on Marie Chang (CGS #63). By the end of the top half of the inning, Crescent Girls’ were leading 7–0.

In contrast, Tan Yong Seng (CGS #7) was having a dominant outing on the mound. She showcased her command of the strike zone, painting the corners for strikes, which caught Anglican High batters looking. Even when they were able to make contact, the balls mostly went infield. This allowed her teammates to field them easily for an easy tag out at first base. This display allowed Yong Seng (CGS #7) to completely shut out Anglican High for all three innings.

The second inning was notable for Crescent Girls’, as they had two players score inside-the-park home runs.

Crescent Girls’ took the opportunity to extend the lead at each half of the inning, up to the point where the game was called after three innings. based on the run-ahead rule. The CGS bench was visibly excited with the win, cheering as the referee signalled the end of the game.

Crescent Girls’ captain, Samantha Ong (#5) said, “I think we played very well today, we managed to hold AHS down and shut them out from scoring. We have to improve on our bunting techniques as it was evident that it was lacking in the game. Even though we lost our first two games, we still hope to win the championship. We are banking on River Valley High beating the rest of the schools to secure our passage into the next round.”
