Myanmar, Friday, December 20, 2013 – The Singapore track and field contingent returned home with eight medals from the 2013 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The haul of two gold, three silver and three bronze medals matched the performance at the 2011 SEA Games.

Singapore got their golds through Mok Ying Ren in the marathon and Zhang Guirong in the shot put.

Three national records were set. The quartet of Wendy Enn, Shanti Veronica Pereira, T. Piriyah, and Dipna Lim-Prasad set a new Under-23 national record in the 4x400m relay final with a time of 3 minutes 44.80 seconds.

Shanti, 17, set a new national record in the 200m heats when she clocked 24.12s to break the old mark of 24.36s set by Dipna Lim-Prasad. Shanti’s previous best was 24.54s. She went on to finish fourth in the 200m final, just 0.03s outside the bronze medal position. Shanti, who was at her first SEA Games, also finished fourth in the 100m.

Dipna Lim-Prasad, 22, set a new 400m hurdles national record of 59.96s when she won the bronze medal.

Thailand finished as the top nation in track and field with their haul fo 17 gold, 13 silver, and nine bronze medals. Vietnam (10–11–12) were second while Indonesia (6–4–7) were third.
