Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Saturday, October 6, 2013 – Dipna Lim Prasad, 22, clocked 24.36 seconds to break the women’s national 200m record of 24.54s at the Singapore Under-23 Open Track and Field Championships. The old record was set by Prema Govindan 29 years ago on August 12, 1984.

Shanti Pereira, 17, who matched the old record at the 8th World Youth Championships, finished second, just 0.21s behind in 24.57. Tyra Ree Summer, 18, was third in 26.39.

Dipna, a student at Nanyang Technological University, had run 26.51 to win her heat while Shanti had clocked 24.87 to win the other heat.

Dipna and Shanti are part of the 4x400m relay team that has been selected to represent Singapore at the upcoming 2013 South-east Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar. The other relay runners are T. Piriyah, Wendy Enn, Tyra Ree Summer and Goh Chui Ling. Dipna is not slated to run the 200m at the SEA Games.

The oldest individual women’s national record in Singapore is for the 400m. 39 years ago, Chee Swee Lee clocked 55.08s at the Teheran Asian Games on September 15, 1974.
