vision 2030 live better through sports

Jalan Besar Stadium, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is considering a bid to host the 2019 FIFA Youth World Cup, said FAS president Zainudin Nordin at the 31st FAS annual general meeting.

“[We are] exploring the possibility of bidding for the hosting rights of a FIFA Youth World Cup. This will enhance Singapore’s reputation as a venue for international events and also add another dimension to our sporting culture. The FAS has been in communication with FIFA where we have expressed our desire to host the Youth World Cup in 2019. We will announce more details in due course,” said president Zainudin.

The FAS will soon be signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the French Football Federation (FFF) to focus on youth development and increase international exposure for local players. The FAS will also send local coaches for attachment stints with the FFF.

The president also said that the FAS is targeting a place in the final for the 2013 South-east Asian (SEA) Games and a gold medal at the 2015 SEA Games which will be hosted in Singapore.
